Instead of the usual canvas uppers, they have black velvet fabric.
They are decorated with little buckles - these are just for show, they are purely decorative.
These are genuine vintage shoes, made by Columbine.
I am not sure of the date, but perhaps 1950s or 1960s?
The price is marked in pre-decimal currency.
I have been unable to trace the brand or maker (Columbine).
The insoles are marked with a picture of a ballet dancer, and the words "Columbine", and MADE IN ENGLAND.
These are flat black rubber-soled shoes, very much like gym shoes (also known as plimsolls or daps), but a bit more fancy.
The ballet dancer picture and the brand name, suggest that they may have been intended as dance practice shoes or possibly use on stage - or perhaps they were just indoor slippers.
