Vintage fleece mitts UNUSED 1960s baby toddler mittens COURTELLE gloves DAMAGED
Fleecy mittens for babies or toddlers, probably made in the 1960s.
UNUSED, but DAMAGED.
Made of Courtelle fleece, with cotton backing, and stretchy cuffs.
Made in England, probably in the 1960s, but never used.
These mittens are unsold shop stock, and they still have an old hand-written shop price on their tags.
The prices are marked in "decimal money" - so presumably they were added in the early 1970s.
There are no garment care instructions.
I would suggest hand-washing only.
Actual length of mittens...................5 inches (12.5 cm)
Actual width of mittens....................3 inches (7.5 cm)
Vintage mittens, most with their original tags still attached, but with MINOR DAMAGE.
These mittens are unsold shop stock from around the 1960s (before the days when washing instructions were sewn into garments).
They have been properly stored in the shop, and are in very good general condition, but unfortunately the oversewing stitches around the edges has frayed a little.
(Presumably the thread was not designed to last for 50 years!)
This is shown in the photographs.
One of the pairs still has its blue and white Courtelle card tag; the others do not.
They still have the original shop label attached, complete with a decimal price of £0.30, which was presumably added in 1971 or thereabouts.
Please bear in mind that the mittens are about half a century old, and will need to be treated gently.
Because of the fraying, the stitching will need to be replaced or reinforced if you are thinking of using the gloves for anything except display.
