Vintage childrens AERTEX Shorts 1930s Shop soiled School uniform Sports kit Grey

Vintage Aertex children's shorts from the Cellular Clothing Company.
Unused, but with storage marks.
Made in England, probably in the 1930s, but possibly the early 1950s (just before or just after the Second World War).
With the Aertex slogan on the label: "The World's Healthiest Wear".
These shorts are very well made, and very good quality.
They would have been worn for school, as part of the sports kit, and also for ordinary summer and sports wear.
They are unsold shop stock from the mid-20th century.
Some still have their original price stickers - they cost between 14/- and 18/9 (fourteen shillings and eighteen shillings and ninepence).

Smart classic sporty design.
  • Fully lined in white cotton.
  • Partly elasticated waist, with opening at one side, with button and press stud fastener.
  • One side pocket.
  • There are no garment care labels - please treat as hand wash only.

Condition

UNUSED but SHOP SOILED.

These garments are unsold shop stock, from around the 1930s.

Some of them still have their old hand-written price stickers attached, complete with the £sd price.

They have been properly stored in the shop, and are in fairly good condition, as you can see.

There is no major damage to the fabric, but they are badly discoloured/faded where they have been exposed to the light (storage marks/age spots), as shown.

This may be improved a little in the wash, but is very unlikely to come out completely.

The shorts are therefore more suitable for nostalgic/historical interest, rather than for normal use.

They might be useful as authentic period theatre or film costumes - particularly for a muddy scene!

In view of their age, the garments will need to be hand-washed before use, and treated carefully.
