Girls vintage black blazer UNUSED school uniform Chest 32" 34" 3 R's RRR 1950s

Girls' vintage British school uniform blazers, made about half a century ago but never used.

From the Three R's (RRR) Schoolwear Range created by Arthur Howard.

(Slogan: Reliable, Reputable and Right).

This is a good quality garment.

Made of black cloth, which appears to be wool or possibly a wool mixture.

Original shop tags, and manufacturer's one-year guarantee card, are still attached.

(Note: this guarantee has long since expired! It guaranteed the garment against fair wear and tear, and particularly against fading by "Sun and Sea Air".)

Blazer

Unlined, except for the sleeves.

3 outside pockets, and 1 inside pocket with zip.

Original shop tags, and manufacturer's one-year guarantee card, still attached (note: this guarantee has long since expired!).

Size: Choice of size. These are girls' school uniform sizes (not ages). The actual garment measurements are:

  • Size 12 (to fit chest 34").....chest 37 inches.....length 24"....sleeve length 24" shoulder to cuff, 17" armpit to cuff......shoulder to shoulder 14"
  • Size 10 (to fit chest 32").....chest 35inches.....length 24".....sleeve length 22" shoulder to cuff, 16" armpit to cuff......shoulder to shoulder 14"

Weight 650g-700g approx.

Difficult to date precisely, but I would think they were probably made in the 1950s.

The manufacturer appears to have been in business from the late 1940s to the mid 1960s.

As you can see, these blazers have never been worn, and still have their original shop tags attached.
They have been in storage at a drapers' shop since around the middle of the 20th century.
I believe they may have been a "sample size" for girls to try on in the shop - so the shop could order the correct size from their tailor.

Condition
These blazers are unworn, and in very good condition, with the original shop tags still attached.
The original price tags have been clipped, probably to remove the £sd price when the new "decimal" prices were added in 1971.
The original pre-decimal prices are marked on the back of one of the guarantee labels.
These uniforms are unsold shop stock from around the 1950s.
They have been properly stored, and there is no major damage.
However, they are about 60 years old, and they do smell a little musty.
The zip on the inside pocket is stuck.
They will need to be treated gently, and brushed and dry cleaned before use.
While they might well be suitable for theatrical or re-enactment use, they will need to be treated gently, and would probably not last long in normal use.
